COLLECTIVES + BOARDS
CONTEMPORARY ART MATTERS
A not-for-profit organization that is currently hosting projects in Surrey, and is working with BC Artscape and the City of Surrey, to develop the first artist run and board directed contemporary arts centre in the City of Surrey.
Research supports our belief that there is a dynamic relationship between art and life, and that effective connections can be made through contemporary art. We envision a space for contemplation and dialogue, where the public can engage with art, artists and each other around contemporary issues – a space for building community, an open cultural arena for new ideas, and where art is a means for connection with the world.
Our objective is to create a space where local to international artists can present exhibitions and projects that are engaged, experimental, and collaborative; including exhibitions that transcend the boundaries of normative understandings of the gallery space to engage with the broader community. This may include satellite and pop-up exhibitions, site-specific, performative and/or interactive (components of) exhibitions, presentations, film-screenings, readings, talking-circles, and performances.
As a curatorial collective we focus on the role of curator as agent in the development of contemporary art.
We facilitate the exploration of emergent practices, discourse, infrastructure, and events that bring challenging work to fruition, give voice to curators and artists, and enrich community.
AgentC Projects has presented artists from Canada and the US, and we are happy to say that two artists, Monique Motut-Firth and Aaron Moran were recently shortlisted artists for the CASV Emerging Artist Prize.
A snapshot of other artists we have worked with include: Sonny Assu, Charlene Vickers, Rosemary Burden, Roxanne Charles, Sandee Moore, Helma Sawatzky, Carlyn Yandle, prOphecy sun, and Erik Zepca.
